An Admission Story, by A Modern Family

I heard about RIISE through a shared post of theirs on BlackParentsForum on Instagram.  I ended up clicking the IG page for RIISE and consumed as much information as I could as I found it all super helpful since I was in the midst of the admissions process in a new state that we were moving to.

We chose to hire RIISE and Gina after speaking with her and digesting all the helpful information she had on her platform and her zoom and live videos.  Before meeting Gina, we had narrowed down some schools which we thought would be a good fit for our kids. However, relocating plus being full-time working parents made it really daunting doing everything and keeping track of everything and every application for two children. Gina had a service that offered us handholding and solid advice, and that helped us hone in on our voice and our children's credentials in a concise and effective manner. I loved our brainstorming sessions because they allowed us to think really deeply about how we wanted our kids to show up and how to present who they were and who we were as a family.

I also loved that Gina was a fellow Independent School mom for several years and had gone through some of the experiences we were going through, including, most importantly, being a family of color in an Independent School.  She identified with a lot of our concerns and need to feel like we belonged and felt a sense of community in the ultimate schools we applied to and the ones we chose not to.

Outcomes-  We applied to 6 schools for our 4th grader as it was a non-expansion year in Atlanta, GA, which meant it was a challenge getting in, and five schools for our 6th grader so that we could ultimate keep the kids together at whichever one accepted the both of them.  With the help and collaboration of RIISE, we got into all but one school for both girls but were most excited to enroll in our number 1 choice school, which was The Westminster Schools Atlanta.  We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with RIISE and would do it over and over again if faced with the decision.
