Resources in Independent School Education – RIISE is honored to provide Families of Color with equitable access to social, economic and academic resources and research that supports retention in the independent school community. In the same spirit of its mission and vision, RIISE will assist independent schools with its goals to expand diversity and inclusion initiatives to include outside resources that foster authentic partnerships with Families of Color.

Metropolitan Montessori School

mmsWe are located in an historic carriage house on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, on West 85th Street near Riverside Park. MMS serves children between the ages of 3 and 12 years and is guided by the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, sensitive to the demands of living in the 21st Century and committed to nurturing in our students an appreciation and knowledge of the natural world. MMS is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools http://www.nysais.org/ and the American Montessori Society http://www.amshq.org/. Our school equips children to meet the challenges of their contemporary world, but the underpinning of our philosophy reflects the vision of Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician born in the 19th Century who formulated an educational philosophy based on her observations about child.

The Calhoun School

calhoun_logoThe Calhoun School is a progressive, independent, college preparatory school located in the heart of Manhattan’s West Side. Founded in 1896, Calhoun has grown into a two-building coeducational institution with 670 students, ranging from three-year-olds to twelfth graders. The school has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Council of Teachers in English (see School History). Teachers in each of our three divisions, a majority of whom have advanced degrees, have been lauded for their challenging curriculum. And our graduating seniors go on to many of the best colleges and universities.

Riverdale Country School

rcs_logoRiverdale Country School is an independent day school that provides a continuous coeducational program for boys and girls from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. The school is located on two wooded campuses in the northwest corner of New York City, NY.
