Congratulations To All Newly Accepted Families!
So You Got In, Now What?
A new family to independent schools asked the question, "How do we manage our first year?" Great question, because families are not off the hook just yet. The hard work begins now and RIISE wants to help make it as rewarding as possible with a few tips. Family Voices Blog tackled this question and provided some candid tips to usher in this ivy educational experience.

Many of our students of color have done it again, they have traded up for higher learning and have been accepted to many notable colleges and universities. Parents, if you are proud of a graduating senior let us know and we will add them to our 2010 RIISE Hall of Fame list posting in June!

Yet, Another Four Letter Word. What Administrators are Talking About
RACE & Education
Yep, this is a loaded word. A bumper sticker seen recently - eRACE, novel idea, yet highly unlikely. As our world gets smaller everyday, intolerance in educational settings continue to creep up. The concept of race is finally beginning to filter through the safe discussions of diversity. How close or how far you get to the word/concept is up to you. But, we thought you should know that both NAIS -PoCC and NYSAIS-Diversity Conference are challenging our long standing institutions to get uncomfortable and consider it's historical context as an indicator for present day practices. The great news is that we can all come through it creating racial and cultural exchanges that are more than just tolerant. If we consider the mission of many of our schools, they are in fact in alignment with anti-racist work and provide a tremendous frame work to create environments that are respectful and engaging, encouraging us to dig deep. Stay tuned, as RIISE provides safe space platforms for families to join our administrators in moving this dialogue forward.
